The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) now states that Hayley Williams and Josh Farro are credited on Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” hit song. The two are listed as writers alongside Rodrigo and producer Dan Nigro, although previously the credits were not given to Paramore lead singer and band’s former member.
Hayley Williams posted “our publisher is wildin rn” on Instagram stories, not giving any further and more detailed comment. It it yet unknown what happened behind the scenes and why the two were suddenly added to the list, however, the similarities between Paramore’s “Misery Business” and Rodrigo’s song have been noted since the track came out, letting the 2007 single re-enter many charts, including Billboard’s. It’s said Hayley and Josh share $1.2M in royalties.
UPDATED: A source close to the situation tells Variety the credit is actually an interpolation — which is essentially an element of a previously recorded song re-recorded and incorporated into a new song — and that the two parties were in touch before “Good 4 U” was released.
